Ethyl Lactate is an ester of Lactic acid, a naturally occuring organic acid also known as Alpha Hydroxy Acid or AHA . Ethyl lactate applied to human skin significantly reduced skin pH, the number of bacteria recoverable from skin, & the hydrolysis of sebum to free fatty acid by bacterial lipases.
